Merging Cats - How to Introduce a New Kitten Or Cat to an Older Cat

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

The following technique can be used to introduce a new kitten or cat to your other cat(s). I’ve been involved in pet rescue most of my life and this technique worked successfully every time. Over the years I’ve had to make a few modifications when introducing older males or feral cats, but in most cases this will work exactly as outlined. It’s assumed your pet is neutered and the new pet is either neutered or less than six months old.

If you have a choice you Newsfeed want to follow a “wives tale” recommendation and pick a young new cat that is the opposite sex of your pet. For example if you have a neutered male select a female kitten or young female. If you have an older female, select a young male kitten. Many people believe these combinations are the best choices to insure a compatible match. There is some biological support for this argument, but I’ve merged many same sex, same age cats and it’s always been successful.

1. Before you bring a new kitten or cat home, make sure it is free of communicable diseases-Feline Leukemia, Distemper, Rabies, worms, and fleas. Most people avoid adopting a cat that has been exposed to Feline Aides, but there’s a mixed jury on how Feline Aides is spread. You may want to read about this topic and form your own opinion before you consider merging a cat exposed to FIV with a healthy cat.

2. While the cats are still in separate locations feed them both a large meal. For example, give both cats a meal that would be comparable to our thanksgiving dinner; choices include their favorite canned food, sardines, tuna, or chicken. Give them at least an extra half serving. You may also want to give a little natural herb relaxant such as “Rescue Remedy”.

3. Place the new cat or kitten inside a cat carrier approximately a half hour after the cats finish eating their large meal. Have a friend bring the new cat or kitten into your house and place the carrier in the middle of a living room floor-make sure there is a place where the new cat will be able to hide once it’s released from the cage (i.e. a sofa, chair, etc.). If you can’t find a friend, to bring in the carrier you can do this yourself, but you must ignore the new cat at all times.

4. Let your cats smell and hiss at each other with your cat running loose in your house and the new cat safe inside the carrier. Since both cats are full and relaxed-it may take 20-30 minutes before the cats notice each other.

5. One hour after you bring the new cat inside open the carrier door, but ignore both cats. Let the new cat come out as it feels ready, this may take up to 30 minutes. The cats may continue to hiss and scream at each other, but usually it’s pretty minimal. Most often the new cat will look for a safe place to hide such as under a sofa or chair. If the new cat runs to you, ignore it.

6. For the next 3-4 days, you must ignore the new cat. Allow your cats to scream and hiss at each other as much as they need to. This let’s your current pet and the new pet establish their own pecking order. The only time you want to interfere would be if the cats got in a bad fight. If this occurs throw a large amount of cold water on both cats, and start the process over. (One time I had to merge two older sickly male cats. They had both been “Tom” cats for years. After this one hour merger technique they got in a horrible fight. I broke up the fight with water, got a large dog crate and for two days I rotated which cat was in the cage and which cat got to be loose. At the end of two days, these cats got along great.)

A final thought, you may want to start the introduction at a time when you can be home for a few days. For example, if you work Monday through Friday, you may want to merge the cats on Friday night so you can observe them over the weekend.

The Golf Swing - My Seven Step Checklist - Step 2 - The Set Up

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

To quote a line from buy life insurance Norton, “Step up, plant your feet firmly, and address the ball- Hello Ball” For all of you Honeymooner fans out there, I’m sure you will recall that this was Eds’ direction North Carolina Lemon Laws Ralph injury lawyers the famous Honeymooner Golf Episode, which is one of my all time favorites. In order to prepare for the golf swing, the set up is where you will step up to the ball, place your feet in position and address the ball, so Ed was pretty accurate in his direction to Ralph, except of course for the Hello Ball part.

After the ball is set on the tee, step back and “Relax”. The next step is to position your body in relation to the ball. The proper alignment to the target is key to accuracy in the set up. As noted in a tip in Step 1 of My Seven Step Checklist, you should choose an intermediate target directly in front of you and in line with the golf ball and your intended landing area. Once you have selected your spot the next step is to take your stance parallel to that line.

Note: To practice aligning correctly to the target two clubs can be placed on the ground - One will be placed adjacent the golf ball and will be pointing directly in line with the ball, your intermediate spot and the landing or target area. The other will be placed in parallel to the first but at the area where your feet will be placed.

Once you practice for a while utilizing this hosting aspnet you should acquire a feel for the correct alignment technique. (Note: The set up can be performed with the feet and body positioned open or closed, in other words, out of alignment to the target line which will allow the golfer to work the ball left or right depending on the set up of the golf hole. This is done deliberately to promote the left to right or right to left ball movement. It is also a technique employed by the more experienced player and is medications recommended for the beginning golfer).

After you have established your line, the next step is the placement of your feet. When I take my stance, I like to place my right foot almost perpendicular or turned slightly to the right of the target line and my left foot is angled about 45 degrees left of a perpendicular line toward the target (Note: the information provided is meant for the right handed golfer and should be reversed for the left handed).

The distance between my feet is approximately shoulder width, especially for the driver. This allows for stability in the stance, which is important in maintaining good balance thru out the swing. As you take your stance the knees should be bent slightly and the upper body should be tilted forward a bit at the waist. The head should be kept upright so the chin does not impede the backswing and shoulder turn, which will be addressed in the next step. As the body tilts slightly forward at the waist and you have taken your grip (as discussed in Step 1), make sure you allow your hands to fall in a relaxed position almost directly below your line of sight if you looked straight down - not too far or too close to your body. I would estimate the hands and club to be approximately six to eight inches away from the body, depending on your height, if done correctly.

I will again emphasize the importance of “Relaxing” for the set up and the entire golf swing. I don’t mean to the point of falling asleep, but there should be no tension in the body, especially the arms, shoulders and legs. This will promote a much better swing tempo and allow the speed of the swing and the club to do the work, which in turn will produce much better results. Since all golfers are different in stature and ability, they may utilize a variation on the ideology noted above.

This information is derived from personal knowledge and over 30 years of experience of playing golf and I would hope it would be helpful to the majority of golfers. There is nothing like practice and experience for learning the correct way to swing a golf club. But, in order for the practice to be efficient and your ability to improve you must have the basic foundation in place for the proper swing, playing techniques and strategies of the game. Learn “The Right Way”.

Happy Golfing To All!

Making a Fortune on the Net With Affiliate Programs

Friday, June 26th, 2009

The World Wide Web could be considered a synonym for opportunity. Millions of Internet entrepreneurs are finding new ways to make money online, as the opportunities for building home based businesses online are growing everyday. Existing businesses are using the Internet as a vehicle for marketing their products and services online while at the same time brand new businesses are getting started with only a home computer and a determination to succeed. The general landscape of commerce has changed forever.

One of the most exciting developments of Internet marketing that is making many entrepreneurs rich is affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing could be the future of marketing and replacement for much of traditional paid advertising because affiliate marketing only cost the advertiser when the advertising is effective. In any affiliate program there is a host web site and affiliates. Affiliates advertise for the host web site using banners, text links, and e-mails with embedded text links and when a web search surfer clicks through from an affiliate link to the host site and makes a purchase the affiliate is paid either a set fee or a commission based on the affiliate agreement.

According to Paul Majestyck of MakeAFortuneOnTheNet , “Affiliate marketing has proven to be so profitable that some people are making a fortune on the net solely through affiliate programs.” These affiliates are basically advertising agents earning profits by selling other people’s products and services. This means that the affiliate can concentrate on the primary object of generating targeted traffic and promoting affiliate products.

The potential for making money in affiliate programs is virtually unlimited but affiliates need to choose the right programs to maximize the chances of success. One of the most important aspects of choosing affiliate programs to promote is to choose products and services that would be of interest to the affiliate’s current traffic base. For example, a webmaster operating a web design firm is going to be most successful promoting affiliate programs for products that would interest those who are building new web sites. Potential products and services to promote might include search engine optimization services, blog template design and implementation services, Internet marketing, web content and >Script> account services. There is a much greater chance of making sales when the affiliate links are relevant to the market of the affiliate web site. A web designer is not going to have much success promoting affiliate links for vitamins or other unrelated products. It is all about targeting qualified prospects.

There is no doubt that affiliate marketing will continue to grow in the future creating even greater opportunities for entrepreneurs all over the Internet.

Caring For Cats - What You Need to Know

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Do you consider yourself a dog person? May you consider yourself a cat person? Maybe you just love all animals and recognize their value as human companions. Whatever the case may be, if you are going to take the plunge and get yourself or you’re a child a kitten or cat, it is definitely worth your while to learn as much as you can about caring for cats.

There are numerous books, tapes, movies, and Internet sites devoted to the care of these majestic and beautiful animals, and with a little time and attention, it is not all that difficult to understand the basics of caring for cats.

If you are planning on getting the pet as a companion for your child or children, rest assured that you are making a wise decision; it is a great idea for children to have the experience of pet ownership when they are mature enough to handle it, or even when they are too young to care for the pet themselves, they can see you taking good care of it. This builds a respect for life, a sense of responsibility for others, and the mutual satisfaction of a loving relationship between pet and human. In a lot of ways, cats can be a much better pet for kids than a dog. For the most part, caring for cats is less time consuming than caring for dogs, so if you worry that your youngster will get bored or not be as responsible as you would like about exercising your pet, a cat might just be the perfect choice for you.

Like any living creature, your cat will need food and fresh water available all the time; cats often have very distinct personalities, and some are very good at reminding you that they do not have enough food. For example, my own cat will go up to the closest table and just start knocking things over when her food bowl is empty. Not all kitties will behave this way, though, so as the human, you must not rely on your cat - your cat must rely on you, so learn all you can before you get the pet, keep learning while you enjoy the kitty, and most of all, love your cat.

Cat Maintenance

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

I know some of these things are simple, but sometimes our furry friends need a helping hand. To clean my cats eyes I use a cotton ball dipped in warm water and swipe the complete eye including the tear duct. They can get “sleepy seeds” in this area just like we do, and although they wet their paw and rub the eye, it is still good to maintain this practise on a regular basis. The nails are another area (unless your cat is de-clawed) that should be checked.

Most cats have scratching posts at home and this is how they keep their nails short. It is similar to us using nail clippers when our nails get to long. There are tools on the market that are similar to our nail clippers and work the same way ours do. You need to be extremely careful doing this because a cats nails has a “quick” just like ours. If you cut the nail to short, not only will you get scratched, it may also bleed a bit. Good luck trying to cut the nails the next time! You can also get their nails clipped at a vets if you so choose to but generally a good scratching post will do the trick. Just take a look every now and then to make sure they’re not to long. Combing is essential to keeping you cat hair ball free.

Cats are constantly bathing themselves; however, there are places they can’t reach easily. Under the chin, and along the spine are two places that come to mind. There are all kinds of fancy cat combs and brushes out there, but I find a fine tooth “human” comb works just fine. When combing your cat always go “with” the flow of the coat and not “against” it as this causes undo stress for the cat, plus it hurts!

My cat “Misty” and I enjoy this time together when I comb her. It is relaxing for both of us and it gets all the hair balls out of the fur. If you do this on a regular basis you won’t have as many to deal with. If your cat is and outdoor one, then sometimes they pick up brambles, twigs, etc. in their fur. Rather than struggle with the comb, I usually just cut these out with a pair of scissors. My cat freaked the first few times I did this, but continuing to do it a couple of times a week, she quickly got used to it. I treat her with something special to eat afterwards so she’s not stressed. I comb Misty two or three times a week and she knows she’s getting a treat afterwards, so as soon as she sees me coming with her comb she jumps up to her grooming spot and is eager to go. This is also an excellent way to see if your cat has ticks or fleas.

There are a wide variety of flea collars, drops, pills out there and are available at Pet stores, grocery stores, vets, etc. This time of year is very important to check you pet for fleas. Fleas are warm blooded and are looking for a free ride into a nice warm place-(like your home). Fleas can be found in your lawn from neighbors dogs, cats, etc. so and can hop onto your pet. They can also hitch a ride on us!!! These are nasty little critters for your pets, and us, so early detection is best for everyone.

The simplest way to eliminate them is to put a plate on the floor with a touch of dish liquid in it. Turn on a small lamp and place it directly over the plate when you go to bed at night. When you wake up in the morning you should find the remains of a few of them. Make sure if you have small children, kittens, puppies, you remove this as soon as you get up. Believe me it really does work! Hope you enjoyed these little tips on maintaining your cat.

The Truth About Earning Money Online

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

The new holy grail of donate your car ct post dot com boom is the great American quest to make money online. In the early days of the internet, there were very few opportunities to really make any capital online save for a few fledgling affiliate programs that gave people pay-per-click links only. These ‘opportunities’ were lackluster to say the least, and never really yielded more than $5.00 a month to even marginally popular websites of the period.

Today, the internet is nearly bursting at the seems with opportunity in the form of Google AdSense, Clickbank Affiliate Links, and Amazon.com Associates to name a few. With these opportunities come an encroaching market to exploit these products in many ways. One going in to business online must be weary of these. The first point I would like to make is that making money online rarely involves a buy-in of any kind. The online market is flooded with self proclaimed celebrities of making money online.

Many videos can be found on Youtube.com of online affiliates seemingly giving out free information. This information, however, has a cost attached and is usually just scraping the surface before the poster nonchalantly directs the viewer to a website to sell a product. Any newcomers to doing business online should stop at this point. I will say to you with confidence that making money online does not involve the purchase of any e-book or knowledge based product that claims to have an inside track to earnings. Many of these scams center around Clickbank and its affiliates.

Clickbank is a great service, but the products offered are rarely worth the $40.00 dollar price tag attached. Many of these products claim to be giving the user a deal when in reality, most products on Clickbank aren’t worth the cost of the sales ticket. Most products have sales tickets that resemble a pop up window in a browser, thusly scaring away any reasonable person. Many will claim to have a trade secret or a secret, unknown strategy for making a large income from Clickbank. This, however, is all a facade to sell a product that the user promoting it has most likely never implemented themselves. For a some final words of wisdom on Clickbank, I would urge users to purchase a product before promoting it. Sifting through the garbage on Clickbank is the only way to truly make an honest dollar. Many affiliates rely on the “bulk posting” method.

This method entails setting up several links to sales tickets (numbering in the hundreds) and counting on the few sales made by these. Setting up with the bulk method requires the affiliate to set up hundreds of ticket links, which is very time consuming. When you weigh hours worked on these tickets with the profit yielded, it is not worth the time for you are paying yourself less than minimum wage!

Google AdSense is a wonderful, free program provided by Google that allows those with an account to place pay-per-click links on any website or Blog the end user may run. It is highly unlikely that a large amount of money can be made from this. The best use of Google AdSense is to supplement another method of making money on your website.

Amazon.com’s associate program is a wonderful one to say the least. It allows users to promote specific products and receive a decent commission from the sale of those products. The main detractor from this method is that the commissions on paper are not as high as those claimed by Clickbank, but, the pertinence of the product sold overshadows this fact.

In summary, the best way to make money online is to create a few legitimate websites. These websites can be in the form of a how-to, or a niche genre based website. Filling your site with original and interesting content that gains a following is the best way to take advantage of money-making services. When people view your website, they will be drawn to its content which gives the author of the site an opportunities to promote products that are pertinent with the subject matter of the site. Concordant, sales will be a natural part of the sites existence, as users will come to trust you to give them an honest product. At this juncture, your Google AdSense links will be clicked often as well which will supplement any other strategies that you have chosen!

I will lay this out in simple steps for all of you. First, create a website with great content! After you have a decent following, implement strategies one at a time. The fans of your site will appreciate your advise and you will reap the benefits of a tried and true method to making honest money. Learn to write good content and tap into your interests. Also, diversify and implement as many methods as you can! Don’t pay for another knowledge based product to trick you into throwing your money away ever again. Good luck making money online!

Controlling Your Cat’s Aggressive Nature With Appropriate Cat Training

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Cats are an interesting animal that must be given respect. You cannot force a cat to comply with your rules like other animals and in fact trying to do so will yield in aggressive cat behavior. If a cat thinks it is cornered or you are trying to force it to do something it doesn’t want to do, it will either run away or go into a defensive position (if it thinks it cannot get away). You don’t want to touch or try to pick up a frightened cat, that would be a mistake you will regret with painful cuts that will ensue when the cat starts to slice you with his claws both hands and feet.

A cat demands respect and there are ways to give it such respect while still demanding that the cat behaves a certain way. You have to approach a cat with diplomacy and tact. A cat that respects you and has a rapport with you tends to listen better but you will have to make the cat think that it’s decisions are his (or her) own. You can find manuals on cat training that will show you a glimpse into the cat world, the cat psychology, so you understand the foundation of how a cat acts and reacts.

Knowing what works and what will become counter productive is key to training a cat to behave. Often a cat becomes aggressive due to being abused in the past, or people scaring it. Cats have a good memory and associate behavior of other people to new people until it has a chance to get to know the new people and realize they mean it no harm. Aggressive behavior is not always there to prove dominance or testosterone, it is more often than not a protective mechanism and it can be deactivated by simply respecting the cats space and giving him a chance to come around.

Patience is a virtue in this situation but you can not just ignore the cat and expect it to come around completely on its own. You want to communicate with the cat, place desirable food close to him but do not chase him into the pantry or force him to come out. Patience and time are needed and putting yourself in front of the cat from a distance will forge a relationship with the cat. In time the cat will come to trust you and will build a relationship with you.

Just because the cat is laying down right in front of you doesn’t necessarily mean it wants or will let you pet it yet. Moving in close slowly like putting your hand near him and gauging his reaction is essential. Once he lets you pet him pet him for a moment then draw back slowly increasing the time you pet him each time. Once a cat fully trusts you then there are additional ways to train him to behave in your space.
